Coba archeological site

Coba the beautifull old Maya city

Coba is an ancient Mayan city located in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. It was once an important political and trading center of the Mayan civilization and flourished between the 6th and 10th centuries AD.

What makes Coba unique is the vast network of roads, known as sacbeob, that connected the city to other surrounding Mayan cities. These roads, made of limestone, were well maintained and some stretched for tens of kilometers.

In fact, the archeological site Coba is considered to be home to the longest sacbe in the world, with a length of approximately 100 kilometers.

One of the most striking features of Coba is the Nohoch Mul Pyramid, which is located in the heart of the city. At approximately 42 meters high, it is the tallest pyramid base on the Mayan Peninsula. Although visitors are no longer allowed to climb the pyramid, they can still enjoy the majestic views of the surrounding area from the base.

The archaeological site of Coba is also surrounded by beautiful jungle and therefore offers a unique atmosphere. Exploring the site by taxi bike is a popular way to discover the old town and enjoy the natural beauty along the way.

While visiting the archeological site Coba you can also discover other interesting archaeological remains, such as the ball court and several temples scattered around the site. It is a fascinating place to learn more about the ancient Mayan civilization and their architectural achievements.

All in all, the impressive ancient ruins at Coba offers a unique experience, immersing visitors in the rich history and beautiful environment of Mayan culture. It is an absolute must-see destination for archeology adventure enthusiasts.
